The Illusion of Endless Desires

Desire is a bottomless pit. The more you have, the more you want.

I still remember the bus ride to my home after buying the Lego set. I felt I was on the ninth cloud that day. I was so experiencing fulfilment to the peak. It felt like I would never desire for anything ever again, but like anyone who has ever felt this, I was wrong. I was surprised when I lost interest just after a few days. I used to think, How could it happen? How can I crave so much for something at one point in time and then there’s no sense of fulfilment after a few months? That was my first experience and then it continued…. Marks, clothes, bikes, friends, travelling, etc etc.

I fell into the loop of not getting satisfied with the things I have. Like when you are in a dessert and thirsty with no water in sight, you would do anything in that one moment for even a drop… You feel like you could drink a gallons of water but when you do find it, only a few gulps and you’re satisfied, the thirst is forgotten in mere seconds and a new need or desire starts burning inside you.

But then, after almost 15 years, on a random day (due to an incident), I decided to end this loop. I decided to give up all my desires or at least try to. I decided to open up my eyes and see the trap we all have been falling into since childhood. I decided to start being happy with whatever I have. It didn’t mean that I should stop doing efforts for something that I wanted but more in the sense that I would do maximum on my end and be satisfied with whatever the result was. If my efforts bore fruit and I got what I wanted, then I’d be satisfied, and if I didn’t, then I would still be happy and satisfied because I did all I could do.

It took me many years; you may take less/more than it, but for a moment, for a tiny moment, think. Think about this loop you’ve been in since you were born, worrying about what’s missing in turn not seeing what you have. You have so much that millions of people don’t have. You, in your current state, are living the life that thousands of people desire, and they would do anything to have what you have today but you aren’t satisfied; you are in a rat race that will only end the day you breathe your last. Please wake up for yourself, for your family, for humanity, and wake up for your Almighty.
